ARK: Survival Evolved, an open world game set on an island inhabited by dinosaurs, has just been given a big update. The new patch (v255) includes features for the recent TEK tier such as a forcefield to keep out intruders. Hipster dinosaur trainers will also want to check out the new hair and beard style. Much more exciting, however, are the four new creatures that this update will add to the game.

The trailer for Patch 255 showcases each one, starting with the catlike Thylacoleo Furtimorsus. Thylacoleo is a predator native to the redwood forests and skilled at climbing trees. Players will want to be wary of its deadly ambush abilities when taking a walk in the woods. Under the sea, the oversized nautilus Ammonitina Multiamicus commands the loyalty of the other sea creatures. When Ammonitina is attacked, the surrounding fish and ocean mammals will rush to its defense. Slaying an Ammonitina is not for the faint of heart, though it can be financially rewarding.

Another ocean-dweller, the Electrophorus Beluadomito is a knifefish with electric abilities. Electrophorus can zap its enemies or prey, and the species is known to swim in schools. Lastly we have the birdlike predator Microraptor Gnarilongus. Microraptor can be trained much like actual raptors to attack other humans or creatures. The trailer reveals that Microraptor can even yank a human rider out of their saddle during combat.

Players who already own ARK should be able to download the new patch through Steam. Anyone else potentially interested in checking out the game can start here.
