On the most recent episode on Live with YouTube Gaming, the chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, Shawn Layden talked about everything from PlayStation VR to the critical response to No Man’s Sky.

Layden said Sony is very happy with the way PlayStation VR has been performing. He said they hope to have more units shipping out soon to alleviate some of the shortages that are currently out there. He also said Thumper is one of his favorite games. But perhaps the most interesting discussion was about the response to No Man’s Sky.

“Hello Games had an incredible vision,” he said. “They were a very small team with a huge ambition.” He added that when he first heard about the game he didn’t believe how small the studio was, so he payed a visit to it just to be sure.  He also stressed that despite the flaws of the game, Sony hasn’t changed its tune about supporting these types of the games in the future.

“We don’t want to stifle ambition,” he said. “We don’t want to put people into slots like an action-adventure path, or a fighting path, or a shooting path.” He went on to say that the game may manage to become what it was intended to become over time.
