Conan O’Brien’s “Clueless Gamer” segments are often a refreshing mainstream look at AAA video games. Cracking jokes and making fun of big games are par for the course. But no game has received quite the tongue lashing as Final Fantasy XV.

O’Brien, along with guest Elijah Wood, play a slightly early version of Final Fantasy XV. While coached by Team Coco’s resident gamer Aaron Bleyaert, Wood is in the driver’s seat while O’Brien mostly looks on in bewilderment. Wood points out a problem with RPGs – “A lot of just walking around, talking to folks.”

They play through a bit of the early game, including their souped up car breaking down (“Are we literally pushing a car through a desert? Why is this a game?”). We see one instance of combat against a giant beast, but it leaves a sour taste in their mouths. Also, it takes three real days to fight it? I think I’m with Conan on that one.

Trying to roll through a huge RPG in a limited time frame won’t give the best showing, and most JRPGs aren’t exactly known for being user-friendly. It does make for one of the most entertaining episodes of Clueless Gamer I’ve ever seen, even when Conan ends by yelling at the developers: “You’re a murderer of people’s time! That said, good job.”

The highly anticipated Final Fantasy XV is due November 29 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. You can watch more Clueless Gamer at the Team Coco website, including an episode featuring Overwatch and some Game of Thrones stars.
