Just Dance 2016 Review: Same Old Tune

Just Dance 2016 is the latest installment in the prolific motion gaming series Just Dance by Ubisoft. Every game is vibrant, silly, and makes you feel like the CW and Radio Disney had a musical lovechild and left it on your front porch. Needless to say this is not a game for dignified people, or any people who unwisely wish to remain dignified. We are all equals on the dance floor; throw your pride away and get ready to shake it.

If you are familiar with the series, you already know exactly what to expect. If you are a beginner, I welcome you with open, wiggling arms. Read More

Yoshi’s Woolly World Review

Posted by | Reviews | No Comments

Yoshi has been destined for stardom since his first appearance in Super Mario World. He started his video game career as a power-up for Mario, but soon the lovable dinosaur starred in his own spinoff series of 2D platformers. These focused on his unique ability to eat foes and lay eggs, which can be used as weapons. Yoshi’s Woolly World combines this simple but effective mechanic with a beautifully realized art style and clever level design to create not only the best Yoshi game, but one of Nintendo’s best platformers in years. LEGO Dimensions Review

LEGO Dimensions is LEGO’s first foray into the toys-to-life market. The game stars Gandalf, Batman, and Wyldstyle, who are on a mission to rescue their friends from the evil Vortech. Along the way, they encounter characters from dozens of different famous games, movies, and TV shows, from The Wizard of Oz to Doctor Who.

Overall, LEGO Dimensions is a lot like other LEGO games, but with cross-franchise interaction and clever physical puzzles (via the Toy Pad, which is similar to the Portal of Power in Skylanders or the Infinity Base in Disney Infinity). It is hardly perfect, but I had a good time smashing bricks and watching characters from some of my favorite universes interact with one another. Read More

The dangers of maintaining a yearly video game release are lessened when you don’t have any competition. That’s exactly what EA has with the Madden franchise. Every so often, the Madden NFL series takes a big enough step forward that it can pull in new and even jaded previous players. Madden NFL 16 is one of those leaps. Read More

In Between Review: A Journey Through the Stages of Grief

Posted by | Reviews | No Comments

Everyone deals with grief in different ways. Sometimes, we reflect on happy times in our lives, and other times we can’t help but dwell on the sorrow that’s drowning us. In Between, a recent indie game for PC, Mac, and Linux that can be downloaded on Steam, tries to help the player experience the five stages of grief through playing the game. It’s an emotional, thought-provoking, and introspective journey, a journey that not only taught me about what it must feel like trying to deal your own impending death, but also what it feels like to reflect on your own life.
