Wizordum is a boomer shooter - that is, a fast-paced, first-person shooter inspired by retro classics such as DOOM, Wolfenstein, and Duke Nukem. There's no cover system. Health does not regenerate, and there's no jumping. The world is broken up into individual levels, spread across three primary episodes. Each level features locked doors, keys, ammo, power-ups, secret passages, and lots of enemies.
Players gradually unlock magic items with spell-like effects as weapons, such as fire-spewing rings, an ice-shattering wand, or lightning-chaining gauntlets, as well as limited-use scrolls and potions.
The 2D sprites and textures are heavily pixelated, giving the game a very retro feel. The blood and violence is also inspired by older classics, with many goblinesque enemies exploding into a bloody mess. The player also finds the fallen bodies of previous adventurers, as well as mutilated body parts.
True to its classic shooter roots, there's little story beyond making it to the end of each level.
Wizordum features autosaves, but the game encourages players to quicksave and manually save as much as they like.
Wizordum features three difficultly levels that adjust enemy and player strength.
The first-person shooter is extremely easy to play, especially in the first several levels. Enemies are generally slow, and few have range attacks. The difficulty goes up as players progress to more challenging enemy types, but by then they've mastered the combat and unlocked additional weapon types and abilities.
Violence Though heavily pixelated, Wizordum features plenty of bloody and gory violence — an obvious homage to the classic early 3D shooters of the 90s.
