Story & Themes
Skyward Sword begins on the floating island of Skyloft. The people of Skyloft fly through the clouds on large birds and are unaware of the populated world below them. When Zelda, the chieftain's daughter, is kidnapped and taken away to the surface beneath the clouds, her close friend Link embarks on a quest to save her life from the evil Ghirahim.

Link is aided by Fi, a strange spirit who lives in the mystical Goddess Sword. Together, the two follow Zelda's trail through vast and dangerous dungeons. Time travel comes into play, as well as reincarnation.

Chronologically, Skyward Sword is the very first Zelda game.
Save Points
Skyward Sword allows you to save at statues, which are located at semi-regular intervals throughout the game world. There are quests in the game during which it can be difficult to save. Skyward Sword works well in one- or two-hour chunks, but can be difficult to enjoy in 15 minute segments.
Difficulty
Skyward Sword is, occasionally, very difficult. It would be very challenging for someone under the age of 12 to finish the game alone.

After the game has been completed once, the player has the option to replay it in "Master Quest" mode, which is much harder than the regular version of the game.
Heads Up!
Violence Skyward Sword has a lot of fighting (usually with swords or arrows), but there is almost zero blood. Once defeated, enemies either blow up or vanish in a puff of smoke.
Scary Imagery While there are very dramatic aspects of the game, there is also a good amount of comic relief and silliness. Most of the game is perfectly fine for young kids to watch, though a couple of boss battles or timed quests may make them nervous.
Sex & Nudity Occasionally you'll see some cleavage or an exposed midriff.
Strong Language There is a small amount of bathroom humor.
Substance Use The game has a tavern, but it's never stated explicitly what the characters are drinking.
