Story & Themes
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' sensei, Master Splinter, has been kidnapped by Shredder. By hopping through mysterious portals, the Turtles travel through familiar locations and defeat enemies on a quest to rescue their mentor. The story features full voice acting, and retreads over familiar grounds worn by the comics, cartoons, and movies.
Each turtle has their signature weapons as well as unique special abilities. The isometric battlefield gives players a chance to quickly dodge and dash to avoid enemy attacks. Enemies start off easy, but as players progress through procedurally generated battle arenas and boss fights, enemies grows stronger. Between combat, players will receive random upgrades, powerups, and currency to purchase health and other benefits, making each run a unique experience.
Losing all lives is a game over, forcing the player(s) to start a new run. However, permanent upgrades and features can be unlocked, making future runs a bit easier.
The game originally launched on Apple Arcade on iOS. The Switch version added four player local co-op.
Save Points
Progress can be saved and resumed any time. Though as a roguelike, once the players run out of lives, they lose all progress and must start a new run.
Difficulty
Splintered Fate has two difficulty levels: Easy and Normal. Normal emulates the demanding difficulty of popular roguelike action games such as Hades, where enemies and challenges grow significantly harder the further you get.
Heads Up!
Violence Like most TMNT video games, Splintered Fate is all about fast-paced melee combat with kicks, punches, and ninja weapons. But also like a typical Turtles game, the action and world is all very cartoonish and colorful.
