Story & Themes
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a side-scrolling platformer for 1-4 players playing cooperatively locally. The Mario heroes, including Toad, Peach, and Yoshi, journey through the Flower Kingdom collecting seeds and completing levels to take on the Wonder-powered Bowser.
The Flower Kingdom is an all-new setting that features different enemy types and some new power-ups, including the Wonder Flowers. Finding and touching these flowers unleashes fast-paced gameplay sequences and/or radically alters the level, such as flipping the water to the ceiling, or riding on a herd of buffalo-creatures.
Up to four local players can play together using a single Switch (and four controllers). The characters can work together to defeat enemies and survive to the end of the level, though every level is designed for a single player to finish it by themselves.
Save Points
The game autosaves after each level, and can be saved manually via the Start menu.
Difficulty
Mario platformers are among the most kid-friendly games, and Wonder is no exception. As a 2D platformer, Wonder relies on two buttons to run and jump, but optional badges can be equipped to unlock an additional ability by tapping the R shoulder button, such as vertical wall-jumping, or hat-gliding.
Each level features a star-rating for difficulty. Some levels feature hidden and secret Wonder Seeds. It's possible to progress through each level and world without collecting all the Wonder Seeds.
Yoshi and Nabbit characters cannot use power-ups, nor can they die from being hit, making them ideal for younger and first-time gamers.
Heads Up!
Violence As with most Mario games, enemies are defeated by jumping on their heads, or blasting them with fireballs. Defeated enemies disappear in a poof.
Online Community
Online connectivity can be optionally turned on if playing with two or fewer players. Online players can see "ghosts" of other players running around levels, and can even revive each other.
