Story & Themes
State of Decay takes place in fictional place called Trumball Valley. This mostly rural town has been overrun by zombies. Players take control of a number of survivors as they try to find their way out of the city. One unique thing about the game is that players can switch between different survivors to give some characters time to rest or heal from injuries. Another unique aspect of the game is that if one of the survivors dies while out fighting zombies, that character is dead forever and cannot be brought back as the game saves immediately after this happens.
As an inexpensive downloadable title, State of Decay contains a surprising amount of depth and the ability to play for upwards of 20 hours, which is the same as full-priced titles.
The game auto saves frequently.
Since certain players can die and never be resurrected, the game can get quite difficult as you have to make do with the other characters who haven't died. If you have a character with a high level, and that person dies, it can be very difficult to get your team of survivors back up the level you had before.
Violence State of Decay is very violent. Players can dispatch enemies with a number of weapons including guns, baseball bats, and slabs of wood.
Scary Imagery The zombies in State of Decay aren't any scarier than zombies in most games, but if you're scared of zombies to begin with, this game could be scary to you.
Strong Language State of Decay contains a decent amount of strong language including f*ck, sh*t and *ss.
Substance Use Characters in State of Decay can consume alcohol and become intoxicated.
