Story & Themes
Set at the end of the Clone Wars of the Prequel trilogy, Zero Company is a mercenary group led by Captain Tesh Hawks, formerly of the Galactic Republic. They're hired by the Republic to investigate a growing new threat: a a cult called the Infinite Coil, with mysterious powers thanks to their infectious disease.
The game tells an original story within the Star Wars universe, with a few cameo characters from the films.
Players embark on missions with up to four squad members, including fully custom characters. Turn-based combat is very similiar to the XCOM series. Each character has a limited number of actions. Chance to hit is affected by cover, range, and skills. Each character class has unique abilities, from Sharpshooter to Assault to Scoundrel. Zero Company also acquires unique story characters, including a Jedi who wields the Force.
Between missions, players, as Hawks, can walk around their base, applying upgrades and bond levels, and chat with their fellow squad maters. The characters are a fun mix of aliens, humans, and memorable personalities.
Difficulty
Star Wars: Zero Company offers four difficulty levels: Story, Normal, Hard, and Expert. In addition, players can choose Beskar mode, disabling manual saves and forcing players to accept all decisions and consequences — including character deaths.
The tutorial teaches players how to use their squad mates to find cover, attack, and utilize their abilities. Though it's up to the player to discover additional weapon strategies, skill uses, and squad synergies.
Heads Up!
Violence Violence in Zero Company is on par with the Star Wars films. Human, alien, and robot characters fight using laser guns, grenades, and melee weapons. There is no blood or gore.
Scary Imagery The Shadow Plague that empowers the Coil is spread via a large centipede-like insect.
