Story & Themes
Like always, Dr. Eggman has captured some of Sonic's animal friends, intending to turn them into his robot minions. While pursuing Eggman, Sonic and his companions come across a strange world in the sky known as Lost Hex. Once there, they discover that Lost Hex is home to a race of creatures known as the Zeti. The Zeti intend to use one of Eggman's inventions to drain all of the energy from Earth to use for themselves. Like always, Sonic sets out to save the world.
The player's progress is saved every time a level is completed.
Sonic is designed to be played by young kids, so completing the levels is never very difficult. You can aim for higher goals if you want to make it more difficult, such as completing levels as fast as possible or trying to get a high score.
Violence Any violence is very cartoony. Some characters say rather threatening things. From the ESRB: "(e.g., 'I'll get fat from eating your black hearts,' 'One second you're contemplating genocide,' and 'As long as I can still strangle a Zeti, my hands are fine.')."
Consumerism There are plenty of Sonic toys out there available for purchase, but the game doesn't directly encourage you to buy them.
Discrimination This is a game about what is essentially a cartoon hedgehog and his woodland buddies, so normally issues of sexual orientation and the like don't come into the equation. There is one female character who insists that she is Sonic's girlfriend, but he doesn't seem interested.
- Are robots inherently evil?
- Why do you think Dr. Eggman wants to use them as his minions?
