Song of the Deep

Song of the Deep stars Merryn, a twelve-year-old girl whose father is a fisherman. One day, her father fails to return from one of his usual fishing trips, and Merryn dreams that he needs her help. She pieces together a submarine and heads out to search for her father in the depths of the ocean.


The game's themes of father-daughter relationships are central to the story and modeled after the real relationship between Insomniac's Chief Creative Officer Brian Hastings and his own daughter. Like Hastings' daughter, Merryn is a brave, determined girl who is valued as a protagonist for her intelligence, creativity, and persistence instead of her appearance.

The game autosaves frequently.

Song of the Deep's difficulty increases as the game progresses to keep the challenge at a moderate level.
