Skylanders: SWAP Force is a game that uses real-world toys to save data and characters. Each character whose toy figure you own can be unlocked and played in the game. In SWAP Force, the player can switch the tops and bottoms of the figurines to create new combos.
As the story goes, the Skylanders were blasted to Earth when the volcano that supplies their magic erupted. Now they must win back the Skylands from the Darkness and evil villain Kaos, who wants to sow discord.
Save Points
Skylanders: SWAP Force saves every time a chapter or challenge in the game is completed, or every time the player gets a collectible. The character's stats, upgrades, XP, etc. are saved every 30 seconds.
Difficulty
Skylanders: SWAP Force is not terribly difficult to master, and you can change the difficulty settings, as well as replay challenges.
Heads Up!
Violence There is fighting in SWAP Force, but it is all cartoonish. All the characters are fantastical creatures (or machines), who turn into puffs of smoke when defeated.
Consumerism Skylanders: SWAP Force, like Disney Infinity, is a huge financial investment. You need to buy figurines for each character that you want to play as. The figurines are placed on physical portals, which allows the characters to appear in the game. Information about each character is saved to a disk in the figurine.
If you have a portal from a previous Skylanders game, you will need to buy the SWAP Force starter pack if you want to use the swapping ability. Old portals are not able to read when you have switched a figurine's top and bottom.
According to Wikipedia, there are 16 new character figurines for SWAP Force, along with reissued figurines from the previous games. There are also additional figurines, like the Legendary figurines and Dark figurines, which can only be bought at certain stores.
These aren't necessary to complete the main storyline of the game, but each figure type unlocks additional content. Each figurine costs about $16, and the starter pack costs over $70. You will need a second portal if you want to play co-op.
Discrimination There are many characters to choose from, and all are fantastical creatures.
Online Community
There is no online play in SWAP Force.
