Story & Themes
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set five years after X/Y, as the customizable protagonist arrives in Lumiose City. The player joins Team MZ to climb the ranks of the Z-A Royale, and investigates the mysterious Rogue Mega Evolutions plaguing the city.
The City features designated Wild Zones with free roaming Pokémon, while some Pokémon such as Pidgey, Trubbish, and Kakuna, can be found anywhere in the city. Players can also freely explore the city to gather items, hop across the rooftops, and discover rarer Pokémon and Alphas.
When the day/night cycle shifts to night, a Battle Zone is set up where players can battle other trainers and earn enough points to take on the next big challenger, from Rank Z to A!
The Pokémon series is famous for its excellent Pokémon designs, intricate but intuitive battle system, and family-friendly atmosphere. Legends: Z-A transforms the normally turn-based battles into real-time, with players running around swapping Pokémon and executing moves. In a series first, the player can actually be knocked out by aggressive wild Pokémon, waking up at the nearest Pokémon Center.
As a spinoff of the main series, Legends: Z-A doesn't add any new Pokémon, but still includes over 200 Pokémon from previous generations.

Players can save their game at any time.
Difficulty
Pokémon Legends: Z-A lacks difficulty settings. The Pokémon series are relatively easy RPGs, though Legends: Z-A is a bit more challenging thanks to the real-time battles. Wild Pokémon can even target trainers, causing them to black out and wake up at the nearest Pokémon Center. Alpha Pokémon are also higher level, stronger, and more aggressive, making them a higher class challenge than other battles.
Heads Up!
Violence Players use their summoned Pokémon to battle other Pokémon with a variety of bites, swipes, elemental blasts, and other effects. There is no blood or damage, but the real-time combat does make the action more frenetic.
Consumerism At launch, Pokémon Legends: Z-A features the Mega Dimension DLC, adding Mega Evolutions for Raichu, as well as "additional story content," releasing Februrary 2026.
