Story & Themes
When Timmy from The Fairly Oddparents makes a wish to continue his D&D-like adventure game, he accidentally gets pulled into the fantasy world, alongside heroes and villains from other Nickelodeon cartoons, including SpongeBob SquarePants, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Avatar: The Last Airbender. The heroes must join forces and face evil monsters and villains to return to their worlds.
Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny is an action-RPG with players choose a hero at their base camp, then embarking on a linear level full of monsters, traps, and treasures. Each character embodies a fantasy class and playstyle. Katara uses her ice powers for healing and support, while Timmy unleashes destructive magic, and SpongeBob is a defensive warrior. Players learn new skills while leveling up. Skills use mana and cooldown, while basic attacks restore mana.
Players can also drink potions for temporary buffs, and find and equip new gear to make themselves stronger. With full stats and randomized loot progression, Nicktoons is a surprisingly solid introduction to hardcore action-RPGs such as Diablo and Path of Exile - wrapped in a kid-friendly cartoon.
The 2D character designs are prefect representations, and help make the game feel like a big zany cartoon. It's a very kid-friendly style, with the caveat that the entire game is combat-focused, with players battling through waves of enemies using their powers, melee weapons, and spells.
Difficulty
Every level can be played at three different difficulty settings, with a suggested party level for each setting.
Some characters are a bit more complex than others, but on the easiest difficulty, anyone can get by with mostly using basic attacks. The right stick can be used to basic attack. Timmy is also a good starting character for younger gamers, as his basic spell attack auto-targets enemies at range.
Heads Up!
Violence Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny is all about combat, with players battling waves of enemies with spells, melee attacks, and various powers and abilities. Combat is fast and real-time. Enemies poof away when defeated.
