Story & Themes
Mortal Kombat X does have a story mode, though many players will probably be more interested in the other modes that focus solely on fighting. Regardless, the game is set during a time in which the Earthrealm is under attack by forces from the Netherrealm led by Shinnok. After Shinnok is defeated, Raiden is able to seal him away into the boss' own amulet. However, Shinnok's ally, the sorcerer Quan Chi, manages to escape. Several years pass, and the amulet ends up causing more trouble than expected, falling into the wrong hands and inciting a civil war. But the worst threat to the Earthrealm and Outworld is Quan Chi who seeks the amulet for his own dark purposes.
Mortal Kombat X has multiple difficulty settings as well as a training area where players can learn and practice moves.
Violence Like other games in the series, Mortal Kombat X is notably violent, with instances of explicit, disturbing images abound. In execution sequences especially, players can see defeated characters have their spines snapped or their limbs torn from them.
