Story & Themes
Mika and the Witch's Mountain is a heart-warming story of a young witch-in-training. Her primary trial is to perfect her broom-flying skills. On a quest to unlock better brooms, she becomes the courier of the island of Mount Gaun. As the story progresses, Mika meets the various residents of the island and delivers goods, from lunch to thank-you letters to missing equipment.
There's no danger or enemies in Mika and the Witch's Mountain. Many items have a health bar, however, and can become damaged from smacking into walls, while some cannot get wet. A damaged item can easily be reset at its original location to try again. A few rare items are on timers, but for the most part Mika can take her time exploring the island, uncovering secrets, gathering collectibles, and delivering the goods.
The hand-drawn character art style is clearly inspired by Studio Ghibli's kid-friendly anime. The story and world are charming and appealing for all ages.
Save Points
Mika and the Witch's Mountain frequently auto-saves, and can be manually saved any time.
Difficulty
Mika and the Witch's Mountain does not have difficulty settings. Controlling a character in 3D can be challenging for younger gamers, especially while flying. The starter broom is purposefully more challenging to control and limited in flight, which could be extra frustrating.
