Save Points
Players can save and quit at any time, including in the middle of a run. However, if players save and exit in the middle of a battle, they receive a special, playfully threatening message from the designer. Only one "do-over" is allowed per area. Exiting in the middle of combat restarts the battle.
Difficulty
The roguelike genre manifests through permadeath and retirement. Once a run is completed, those veteran cats cannot be sent out again, though they can be used for breeding. Mewgenics is fairly forgiving, however. The first 'dungeon,' the alley, is fairly easy to finish, and players can always choose to stop the run after completing each area. Each dungeon area also has an optional Hard path. And most of the time, downed cats are bestowed a permanent debuff rather than killed off. The difficulty lies in enemies becoming progressively stronger in later dungeons, and player abilities becoming more complex and intricate as the runs advance through multiple areas.
Heads Up!
Violence You cat adventurers attack enemy mutant cats, blood fleas, and other weird monsters through a variety of attacks including melee scratches, gassy farts, lightning bolts, grenades, and bug infestations. Due to the isometric view and hand-drawn art, there are minimal animations, though blood spatter does appear on death.
Sex & Nudity Kittens are randomly produced when cats breed together, which is briefly (and humorously) depicted as cats humping, and little kitties popping out (no genitalia is shown). However, players can change the 'Humping Animation' under Game Settings to a 'Safe' setting, which changes the animation to something else, such as summoning a kitty through a ritual spell.
Substance Use Non-descriptive pills, such as "upper" can be equipped as consumables to give positive effects.
