Story & Themes
Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain stars Big Boss after he awakes from the nine-year long coma that Cipher left him in during the previous game. Big Boss is attacked by one of Cipher's agents, Quiet, but is saved by a mysterious figure called Ishmael. Ishmael leaves Big Boss with Revolver Ocelot who has joined the mercenary group called Diamond Dogs, and Big Boss involves himself with the group as well. With the help of his new allies, including a changed and enhanced Quiet, Big Boss expands and strengthens Diamond Dogs' influence while simultaneously investigating Cipher.
Phantom Pain can be a bit challenging, though players can bypass some of the trickiest via microtransactions if they so choose.
Violence The full brutality of war is on display in Phantom Pain, and no holds are barred. Among general depictions of blood and gore, players will also see and likely commit acts of torture.
Sex & Nudity Some of the female characters, such as Quiet, wear very little clothing. The game also includes references to rape.
Strong Language Fairly common usage of words like "f*ck" and "b*tch."
Substance Use Smoking a particular cigar will speed up time.
Consumerism The game includes optional microtransactions which are supposed to accelerate gameplay instead of act as a paywall to those who have reached a certain level of progress.
Phantom Pain has two multiplayer modes, both of which are online.
