Story & Themes

The story will be familiar to anyone who has watched or read the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and it's recommended that you do have this familiarity before playing if you want to be able to appreciate and understand everything that is going on.

The narrative thread focuses on Frodo Baggins and his journey with the Fellowship of the Ring as they travel to Mordor in order to destroy the One Ring and thereby thwart Sauron's return to power. It is a traditional epic fantasy adventure that stresses themes of companionship, power, and loss.

Save Points

The game features checkpoint statues that can be used to save the game during levels. The "Save and Quit" option can be used in the middle of levels to save collectibles found but not the progress in the level itself.

Difficulty

Like the other Lego games, The Lord of the Rings is a great family game that younger kids shouldn't have much trouble with.

Heads Up!

Violence Characters fight with magic, swords, and bows etc. to defeat fantasy enemies. Upon dying, characters burst into Lego pieces.

Scary Imagery The fantasy creatures, such as trolls and goblins, could possibly be scary to little kids, though their Lego forms make them look much less frightening than they traditionally would.

Strong Language Some of the slapstick moments are borderline crude, though very mild.

Consumerism LEGO The Lord of the Rings encourages consumerism at a basic level with its specific tie-ins to Lego toy products. Don't be surprised if younger kids want to purchase the toys after playing the game.
