Story & Themes
Lego Harry Potter: Years 5-7 picks up where its predecessor left off, continuing the story of fifteen-year-old Harry Potter and his friends during their fifth year at Hogwarts. Harry must navigate school life and a burgeoning romance, all the while facing the threat of Voldemort's return to power. The game covers the four final films in the Harry Potter series (the seventh being split into two parts) and concludes the story.
Major themes, which admittedly are watered down in Lego's adaptation, include friendship, love, bravery, and the triumph of good over evil.
Representation Lego Harry Potter is as inclusive as the original book series, which is fairly good. Characters of different races, genders, and sexualities are present, though the three main protagonists are straight and white.
Save Points
The game saves automatically once a level has been completed. If you save and quit in the middle of a level, collectibles will be saved but the level will have to be replayed.
Difficulty
Lego Harry Potter is perfectly accessible for younger kids to play, but its whimsy is fun for all ages.
Heads Up!
Violence Violence in the game is very mild and involves fights or duels with magic. No blood is depicted.
Scary Imagery While there are typically scary creatures in the game, such as dragons, their Lego depictions make them look much less intimidating.
Strong Language The game doesn't contain any swearing, but there is some G-rated potty humor.
Consumerism Lego games are undeniably trying to sell children Legos, especially the sets that tie into the specific games. Parents should be aware that after their kids play Lego Harry Potter, they may soon be asking for the Harry Potter set for their birthday.
