Story & Themes
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening diverges from the setting of Hyrule Kingdom. Instead, Link finds himself stranded on an island called Koholint. On the island, Link befriends a girl named Marin and her father, Tarin, who take Link in. Of course, Link's Awakening wouldn't be a Zelda game without Link embarking on a many-stepped quest, and so Link ventures throughout the island in pursuit of the eight instruments of the Sirens. With these instruments combined, Link will be able to wake the Wind Fish, allowing him to return home.

Throughout his journey, Link eventually learns that Koholint Island is in fact a dream world constructed by the Wind Fish. After defeating the final boss, the Wind Fish explains that Koholint is actually Link's dream. Link plays the Ballad of the Wind Fish, and the two of them awaken. The island and all the people on it slowly disappear, leaving Link alone and clinging to a piece of driftwood in the middle of the ocean while the Wind Fish flies overhead.
Difficulty
The Legend of Zelda series was always meant to be family friendly; however, players new to the games might find Link's Awakening a bit challenging as it doesn't offer the features most players are used to such as autosaving or a tip system.
Heads Up!
Violence The game features mild fantasy violence that is not likely to offend. Also, the lack of color in the game lessens the violence even more so.
