Story & Themes
There is no overarching story explaining why the champions team up to fight each other; however, each champion has a backstory, and some of them have existing rivalries or friendships. With 123 champions to choose from (as of December 2014), that's a lot of story.
br>
The player in League of Legends is referred to as a "Summoner." That is to say, players Summon the champion that they want for that battle. Players often have a preferred champion whose abilities they are comfortable with.
br>
Each round begins with assembling a team. Players seeking matches connect and form teams of five. Then each player chooses the champion to play with for that round.
br>
Every week, 10 champions are available for free. Players can take this chance to become familiar with champions they haven't played before. Players can also buy champions, as well as "skins" (outfits) for their champions; this way if they like particular champions, they will always be able to play with them.
Save Points
The player's progress is saved after each match, but if connection is lost during a match any improvements will be lost.
Difficulty
The difficulty of League of Legends depends on the skill of the players you are matched against. The game tries to keep players of the same level together.
Heads Up!
Violence There is mild fantasy violence; the characters fight each other using fantastical weapons or powers. There is a light red mist that indicates blood when someone gets hurt, but it fades quickly. Most of the "hit" effects are provided by flashing lights.
Sex & Nudity Some of the champions—both men and women—are scantily clad.
Strong Language Without regulated chat, players can be exposed to foul language from other players.
Substance Use Some of the champions are depicted smoking.
Consumerism Players can spend real money to buy upgrades and new characters.
Discrimination There are both male and female champions, but not much racial diversity.
Online Community
League of Legends is played online, and players use headsets or text chatting to communicate with teammates. As with any online game, this means that the player can be exposed to some harsh, hateful language.
