Story & Themes
In Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, a bomb is about to go off and time is running out. The bomb can be defused...but the person doing the defusing doesn't have the manual and must therefore rely on another person to walk them through the instructions. The "Expert" with the manual cannot see the bomb, and the "Defuser" cannot see the manual, so clear, efficient communication is of the essence (and trickier to pull off than one might think). Each bomb has a certain number of modules, and each module represents a different puzzle that must be solved. It is the Defuser's job to describe the format and specifics of the modules to the Expert so that he/she can provide the correct solution for them within the time limit. If the bomb isn't defused in time, it explodes and players are offered the opportunity to try again or attempt a different bomb scenario.
Difficulty
The challenge lies in the two people's (or group's) ability to communicate with each other, and this can be particularly difficult and stressful under the imposed time limit. Everyone's communication skills will be indubitably put to the test.
Heads Up!
Violence The room will explode if the bomb isn't defused in time, but nobody is depicted as being hurt.
Conversation Starters
- How did your attempts at bomb defusal go? Did you have difficulty communicating with your partner?
- Do you prefer to be the Defuser or the Expert? Why? Does one job have more pressure than the other, or are they pretty equal in that respect?
