Story & Themes
Not much background information is given to ground the game's plot, and the premise is downright wacky. The playable character, a human girl, attends St. PigeoNation's Institute for birds. For reasons not explained in the game, her bird classmates, though still bird-sized, are sapient. Throughout the game, the protagonist can choose to interact with and romance one of eight possible birds in a branching storyline. Much of the game's appeal is in playing through the various storylines by making different choices to explore the many endings.

Difficulty
The gameplay of Hatoful Boyfriend consists solely of clicking on dialogue options. There is no inherent difficulty to the game.
Heads Up!
Violence Violence can only be encountered by unlocking a bonus ending. Through this ending, players will be exposed to a dismembered corpse and other images/scenarios of horror. However, this can all be skipped by only playing through normal endings.
br>
Suicide comes up in one of the storylines.
Scary Imagery As mentioned above, the bonus ending contains various moments of psychological horror that may not be appropriate for kids.
Sex & Nudity The game is about romance, not sex, so there isn't any sexual content that parents need to be wary of.
Discrimination Considering that nearly every character is a bird, this issue is basically moot.
