Story & Themes
Granblue Fantasy: Relink begins where other JRPGs would consider the midpoint of the adventure, with the customizable protagonist as captain of a skyship, and part of a team of no fewer than five other badass companions. The captain has forged a bond with a mysterious young woman, Lyria, as they search for a mystical land and the disappearance of the captain's father. Lyria's power to summon a primal dragon attracts the attention of enemy forces, as the crew of the GrandCypher gets caught up in an epic plot.
The main story is serviceable if very very short (about 10-15hours), and checks a lot of boxes for anime action tales, as the power of friendship conquers all.
The real meat of the game comes from after completing the story (almost an extended tutorial), as players continue to tackle challenging quests and big boss battles while unlocking and leveling new characters.
Difficulty
Granblue Fantasy includes three difficulty levels at start, with a fourth higher difficulty unlocked after finishing the main story. The main campaign is generally on the easier side, with much of the more challenging missions in the lengthy post-game (not unlike the Monster Hunter series).
Heads Up!
Violence Real-time action combat features melee weapons, guns, and magic spells in colorful pyrotechnics. There is no blood or gore, however, making combat look more like a vivid comic book battle.
Sex & Nudity In true anime fashion, some female characters wear revealing clothing with deep cleavage. There are no sexual themes or suggestive dialogue, or however.
Strong Language Some mild swear words.
Online Community
While the main story campaign is single-player only, up to four players can join together in online co-op, forming parties and undertaking side quest missions.
