Story & Themes
In Firewatch, players control Henry, a man whose wife has early-onset dementia. Their relationship becomes strained as a result, and Henry joins the fire service as a lookout in Wyoming's Shoshone National Forest. The job isolates Henry from all other people except for his boss, Delilah, who he communicates with through a radio. As Henry explores his surroundings, initially setting out to stop a group of teenagers who have been lighting fireworks in the forest, he gradually finds himself in the midst of mysterious circumstances. With only Delilah for help and company, Henry must figure out what's going on in the woods, and who's trying to frame him for it.
The game requires players to navigate the environment on their own with only a map and compass for guidance. The likelihood of getting lost is therefore fairly high, and those with poor navigational skills may experience a decent amount of frustration.
Scary Imagery The game may make players feel a bit paranoid, but that's the extent of the spookiness.
Sex & Nudity Players can view a nude sketch of the protagonist drawn by his wife. Dialogue includes occasional flirtation, but nothing explicit.
Strong Language Fairly frequent use of words like "f*ck" and "sh*t."
Substance Use Players can encounter empty bottles of alcohol. References to marijuana appear in dialogue.
