Story & Themes
In Fire Emblem Fates, players get to choose their own path depending on whether they purchase Birthright or Conquest, the two different versions of the game. Birthright unites the protagonist with their birth family in the kingdom of Hoshido while, in Conquest, the protagonist chooses to stay with their adoptive family in Nohr. The way that the story unfolds is dependent on this initial choice, though in both cases the conflict between Hoshido and Nohr is central. Players of Birthright will find themselves allied with those who are more obviously the good guys in the fight against Nohr while those who pick Conquest will work to overthrow their own malevolent government. Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation concludes the story of both and is available as downloadable content.
Difficulty
The game has three different difficulty settings: Normal, Hard, and Lunatic. Players should be warned that if they choose a harder difficulty it's possible to lose allies permanently if they fall in combat.
Heads Up!
Violence Characters use a combination of fantasy weapons and magic to battle one another. Combat is seen from an overhead perspective and blood appears only occasionally and abstractly.
Sex & Nudity Some of the female characters wear suggestive clothing and are occasionally objectified by the camera.
Consumerism Players who want the full experience might be compelled to buy all three games under the Fire Emblem Fates umbrella: Birthright, Conquest, and Revelation.
