Story & Themes
Final Fantasy XII is set in Ivalice, a land comprised of several continents and kingdoms. One of the kingdoms, Nabradia, is under attack by the Archadian Empire at the game's onset. The invasion interrupts the wedding between the prince of Nabradia and Princess Ashe of Dalmasca. In the ensuing war, the prince is killed and the princess is presumed to have committed suicide.

The remainder of the game deals with the consequences of these opening events. The political turmoil in Ivalice is exacerbated by the emergence of the Dalmascan Resistance and the exploitation of Nethicite, a synthetic form of the magic-rich mineral magicite.
