Final Fantasy XI

Final Fantasy XI takes place in Vana'diel, a diverse world with many areas that can be explored throughout the game. Though the game allows players some freedom in how they play, certain stages of the main storyline must be completed to progress in other areas. The game begins with the player in one of three nations: Windurst, Bastok, or San d'Oria. Set twenty years after the end of the Crystal War, the Beastmen, a group of monstrous races, continue to plague all three countries. However, as an adventurer, the player soon discovers that a larger threat looms on the horizon. The Shadow Lord is expected to rise again, and the adventurer must prepare the world to face him.

As with any MMO, FFXI has its own somewhat expansive set of rules and strategies to learn which may intimidate new players. However, once the learning curve is overcome, the game shouldn't be too difficult to play.
