FIFA 17 makes waves by introducing a single-player story experience called "The Journey." In this mode, players take control of Alex Hunter, an aspiring footballer who is trying to work his way up to the Premier League club. Alex's grandfather was a successful player in his own right, but Alex's father was injured before he got the chance to progress very far in his career. Alex, therefore, strives to make it into the club not only for his own gratification but also to make his father proud.


The Journey also features a dialogue wheel similar to those found in RPGs which allows players to determine the shape of Alex's personality. Choosing different dialogue options doesn't drastically alter the course of the story, but it can affect Alex's standing in the club as well as how other characters perceive and interact with him.

The game's controls are easy to pick up, even for those new to the franchise.

FIFA 17 includes both online and offline modes of multiplayer play.
