Story & Themes
In the year 2277, the future is bleak for human civilization. A nuclear war over resources has devastated the nation and world, killing off most of humanity and forcing the survivors to create a new source of order (or lack thereof). The luckiest people have survived nuclear fallout by taking refuge in vaults: underground bunkers constructed throughout the US.
The playable character, a nameless, customizable figure, grows in up Vault 101 with their father, James. The player experiences a fairly normal life until one day James leaves the vault. Desperate for answers, the player follows after him, traversing the dangerous Wasteland to find James and get answers.
Save Points
Fallout 3 will save automatically at certain points, such as after the player sleeps in a bed or enters a building. The game can also be saved manually at almost anytime.
Difficulty
Fallout 3 isn't a walk in the park. Ammunition is scarce, and how you choose to level up different skills can greatly affect the difficulty of combat. With that said, the game offers different difficulty settings that can help to mitigate the frustration for new players.
Heads Up!
Violence Fighting in Fallout 3 can be intense and bloody, with players using a variety of melee and gun weapons. Dismemberment is common and mildly graphic.
Scary Imagery Some of the mutated creatures can be scary, especially if they sneak up on you at night.
Sex & Nudity In the game, you can encounter prostitutes. However, sexual content is merely implied and never shown.
Strong Language Strong swearing can be heard throughout, such as f*ck and sh*t.
Substance Use The player can choose to use drugs to increase things like damage and damage resistance. Repeated use of a drug will result in addiction, and if the player does not continue to use the drug they will experience withdrawal symptoms.
