Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes

Eiyuden Chronicle is a retro-inspired, party-based RPG set in the fantasy world of Allraan. The RPG is specifically modeled after the Suikoden series, with over 100 heroes to recruit amidst the backdrop of a new war between powerful nations.
The primary protagonist is Nowa, a young recruit to the Watch, who must survive the war, gather allies, and fight back against the Galdean Empire. Themes of war, oppression, and violence are heavy throughout the narrative, as well as friendship, betrayal, and patriotism.
The traditional JRPG features explorable maps, dungeons, and towns. Up to six characters form a party and battle monsters in turn-based combat. Players eventaully establish their own castle headquarters where they can talk to party members and engage in minigames. Discovering and recruiting new allies, whether they join the active battle party or a role in the castle, is a major part of the gameplay and story.

Players can only save the game at save points in dungeons and other dangerous areas, as well as Inns while in towns.

Infrequent save points, and the lack of a "save anywhere" feature can be frustrating for many players. The RPG is mostly forgiving with party compositions, though many boss fights have a special gimmick that players will need to exploit to succeed (and are openly telegraphed). Grinding for experience and not swapping out for lower level party members can make for a much easier game.
