Story & Themes
In DOOM, the game opens with the player character chained to a table in a research facility on Mars. The player breaks free and attacks the demonic creatures that have been holding him there, but it's soon clear that the entire facility is overrun with these monsters from hell. The player steps up to the task of purging the area of its demon infestation and along the way seeks to understand where they have come from. Ultimately, a story unfolds about an energy crisis on Earth and the scientists who attempted to solve the problem through unconventional means.
The game autosaves at checkpoints.
The game has multiple difficulty settings, though the normal mode is fairly challenging on its own.
Violence Violence in the game is overblown and explicit. Players gun down or hack away at enemy monsters, often decapitating or dismembering them.
Scary Imagery The hellish enemies may be scary to younger players.
Strong Language The words "sh*t" and "f*ck" appear often in dialogue.
The game includes an online multiplayer mode.
