Story & Themes
Borderlands 3 is set several years after the events of Borderlands 2 (and Tales from the Borderlands), and focuses on two new villainous twins, Troy and Tyreen, who have rallied the bandits into a cult in the hopes of finding the Great Vault.
On the other side is the resistance, led by series star Lilith, who recruits new Vault Hunters to battle the twins, and save Pandora. For the first time in the series, players will venture beyond the planet of Pandora and onto other worlds as they chase the twins, meeting fan-favorite series regulars along the way.
The humor and story take a notable backstep compared to previous entries, but the gameplay is the best yet, with multiple, deep skill trees for each character (including multiple unique skills), better movement abilities, and millions of randomized and unique guns to discover.
Borderlands 3 maintains the series' support for cooperative play, including split-screen multiplayer, making it an instant winner for couch co-op couples who enjoy more action-packed gaming.
Difficulty
Players can start on Normal difficulty, or an Easier mode for newer players. Once completing the campaign, players can change to Mayhem Mode for an increased challenge.
Heads Up!
Violence As a first-person shooter, Borderlands 3 is a violent game, with enemies exploding left and right with a healthy amount of blood and body parts. Bodies are not left behind however, but simply disappear instantly as loot pops out directly onto the floor. The violence is played more for laughs than drama.
Sex & Nudity One of the fan-favorite ally NPCs, Moxxi, is infamously sexualized throughout the series, in both her outfit and her dialogue. Many characters aren’t shy with making overtly sexual jokes and comments, though there are no sexual acts in game.
Strong Language Borderlands 3 features strong language. Characters frequently curse, including the f-word, as well as make the occasional suggestive comments and dirty joke.
Consumerism The Borderlands series has long relied on post-launch DLC to keep players interested, adding new zones, quests, enemies, and occassionally new Vault Hunters.
