Borderlands

Borderlands takes place on the planet Pandora, home to a fabled alien construction known as the Vault. The player character arrives on Pandora as a fortune hunter with hopes of uncovering the Vault and recovering its treasures. With the help of a mysterious being who styles herself as the Guardian Angel, the player retrieves one the of artifacts needed to open the Vault. Along the way, the player also receives help from an archaeologist named Patricia Tannis who is later captured by a mercenary group called the Crimson Lance and forced to betray the player.


The Crimson Lance's leader, Commandant Steele, rushes toward the Vault with the reconstructed Vault Key, battling the Vault's alien Guardians en route. The player character hurries to stop Steele, but arrives too late. The Vault opens, and a monster emerges that kills both Steele and her team. The Guardian Angel tells the player that the monster was sealed away long ago to prevent it from destroying the world, and the player has to defeat it in order to return it to the Vault.

The game autosaves whenever players pass a Nu-U pole (a pole with a red light on it that turns green when you walk past it).

Borderlands has a decent tutorial system for teaching players the controls.

The game supports online co-op of up to four players, though there is also the option for local co-op.
