Story & Themes

Aion is set in a fantasy world called Atreia, created by the God Aion. The world has been torn asunder by a rift in the ranks of the Empyrian Lords, who were tasked with protecting humanity from the evil Balaur.

Half of the Empyrian Lords call themselves the Shedim and have inhabited Asmodae, a dark and rugged place. The Asmodians are a close-knit people. The other half, the Seraphim, have moved to Elysea, a beautiful, bright place, but whose people have become somewhat arrogant.

Players will choose a character and work towards various goals within the story, such as "Ascension," during which they become a mythical Daeva.

Save Points

Aion is an MMORPG, so players may log out whenever they choose, but the game world will continue existing without their presence.

Difficulty

Anyone familiar with an MMORPG will find it no trouble.

Heads Up!

Violence Fighting is a major part of Aion, but is not particularly graphic (and blood can be turned off).

Sex & Nudity There is no sexual content in Aion, but much of the clothing and armor is fairly revealing and/or sexualized.

Strong Language Only mild swearing such as "damn" is used in the game's dialogue scenes. However, because it's an MMORPG it's likely that other players will use much stronger language.

Substance Use Characters spend a lot of time in inns and taverns where alcohol is served.

Consumerism While most MMOs function on a monthly payment system, Aion is free-to-play.

Discrimination Although neither the Elyos or the Asmodians are portrayed as the "bad guys" in Aion, it could be argued that the Asmodians' darker coloring paired with their rougher background and demonic wings is a subtle form of racism, especially compared with the very light-skinned, angel-winged Elyos. On the other hand, players can choose the skin tones, gender, and looks of their characters, giving the game a wide and diverse set of characters.
