The Game Awards 2024 has revealed the nominations in all 29 categories, with Astro Bot and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth leading the pack at seven nominations each. The Game Awards 2024 will broadcast live from Los Angeles, CA on Thursday, December 12.

Game of the Year

  • Astro Bot (Team Asobi/Sony Interactive Entertainment)
  • Belatro (LocalThunk/PlayStack)
  • Black Myth: Wukong (Game Science)
  • Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree (FromSoftware/Bandai Namco)
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (Square Enix)
  • Metaphor: Refantazio (Studio Zero/Atlus/Sega)

The inclusion of Elden Ring is controversial. This is the first year in The Game Awards history that post-launch DLC has been nominated for Game of the Year. Shadow of the Erdtree was also nominated in three other categories, including Best Art Direction.

Elden Ring won Game of the Year in 2022.

Astro Bot is the heavy favorite this year, a surprise hit of a 3D platformer that celebrates PlayStation’s history. Astro Bot’s other noms include Best Audio Design, Best Action/Adventure, and Best Family.

Atlus RPG Metaphor: Refantazio received six nominations, and card game hit Belatro received five, including Best Debut Indie Game

Nintendo continues to dominate the Best Family category with three nominations: Prince Peach: Showtime, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

However, we predict Astro Bot will sweep most of its nominations, including Game of the Year, and Best Action/Adventure. Metaphor: Refantazio should win Best RPG, Unicorn Overlord for Best Sim/Strategy, and Helldivers 2 for Best Multiplayer.

Amazon Studios’ wonderfully quirky Fallout series should easily win Best Adaptation (though we do love Arcane!), and most Anticipated Game will probably go to one of gaming’s biggest series, Grand Theft Auto 6.

The nominations were selected from over 100 “global media and influencer outlets.”

Public fan voting is available now, which makes up 10%, compared to the 90% of the voting jury.

Tune into The Game Awards December 12, starting at 4:30pm Pacific/7:30pm Eastern. In addition to turning nominations into winners, The Game Awards feature dozens of trailers and game announcements.
