Story & Themes
While obviously drawn from the modern-fantasy world of Harry Potter, Hogwarts Legacy tells an original story set 100 years before the original book series, in the late 1800s.
The customizable player character joins Hogwarts as a late fifth year student, who becomes tied to an ancient form of magic.
At school the player learns how to master spells while making allies of students and teachers, and exploring the school and surrounding areas. They'll deal with villainous dark wizards, a goblin rebellion, and the mystery behind the powerful, ancient magic.
The game reinforces many prevalent themes from the novels and movies, including friendship, knowledge and education, bravery, and corruption.
Save Points
The game autosaves at regular intervals, and players can manually save at any time.
Difficulty
Hogwarts Legacy has four difficulty settings, ranging from Story to Hard.
Heads Up!
Violence As a witch or wizard, players resolve battles with monstrous creatures and enemy wizards through casting colorful and explosive spells. Enemies react with pain, and fall dead with visible blood.
Scary Imagery Some areas, such as the Forbidden Forest, and certain side quests feature creepy elements. Also, large spiders! Fans who have read the books and watched the movies should be okay with all of the scary content, though playing a game can create a deeper level of immersion.
Substance Use In a nod to the books, players can drink butterbeer, which has a bit of alcohol.
Consumerism The Dark Arts Pack DLC includes a mount, cosmetic set, and battle arena.
