Story & Themes
MultiVersus is an online fighting game, and doesn't have any story or themes beyond seasonal updates and content. A group of heroes must save the multiverse from evil villains, but players are free to play any combination of hero and villain characters in competitive PVP matches as well as solo or co-op rifts.
The fighting game uses a crossover of Warner Bros-owned franchises and characters, similar to Super Smash Bros. and Nintendo characters. At launch the roster includes several heroes and villains from DC Comics, such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Joker, as well as characters from animated shows such as Adventure Time, Rick and Morty, Scooby Doo, and Loony Tunes. Some characters are not from kid-friendly franchises, however, such as Arya (Game of Thrones) and Jason Vorhees (Friday the 13th).
MultiVersus is free-to-play and supported by in-game purchases and an optional premium battle pass. Players can unlock fighters either by earning in-game currency, or purchasing them with real money currency.
Save Points
MultiVersus is played almost entirely online, and saves between matches. Matches and Rifts are relatively short and typically last only a few minutes.
Difficulty
As a 2D platform fighter, MultiVersus is easy to teach, with simple controls that feature only a handful of special abilities (especially easy if players are familiar with Super Smash Bros.). Advanced players can execute powerful combos and move incredibly fast. Every fighter has a recommended difficulty level for how complex they are. AI bots have difficulty settings, and the PvE rifts can be challenged at different difficulty levels, letting players earn greater rewards for harder challenges.
Heads Up!
Violence MultiVersus is a fighting game starring (mostly) cartoon and comic characters who punch, whack, slash, and explode each other in cartoon violence. There is no blood or gore. Defeated opponents are knocked off the arena and quickly respawn.
Strong Language Mild language
Consumerism MultiVersus is free-to-play and monetized by in-game microtransactions, such as purchasing each fighter, or purchasing a premium seasonal pass of unlockable content. Players can (slowly) earn in-game currency to purchase content, or quickly unlock fighters and other content by using real money currency.
