During the Xbox + Bethesda Games Showcase, Squanch Games announced High on Life, a comedic shooter coming to PC and Xbox this October.
Squanch Games was co-funded by Justin Roiland, who co-created popular adult animated series Rick & Morty. Like the studio’s previous game, Trover Saves the Universe, High on Life is an absurdist sci-fi action game with lots of wacky comedy.
In High on Life, you play as a bounty hunter trying to prevent an interstellar cartel from harvesting humans from earth, turning them into drugs.
That’s not even the wackiest part though. The weapons in High on Life are all sentient alien creatures. Each weapon has a distinct personality, and they constantly babble while firing their unique ammunition.
“It’s also important that our games are super fun to play and aren’t padded out with a bunch of nonsense. Well, not boring nonsense. This is our first first-person shooter, and we’re proud of how it plays. It’s not a mediocre game with great jokes,” said Mike Fridley, studio director. “High On Life is a great shooter that’s also totally hilarious and weird as all get-out.”
High on Life is coming to PC and Xbox Series X/S later this year. It has not yet been rated, but Trover Saves the Universe was rated M for Mature.
