During last weekend’s Pokémon Presents, The Pokémon Company announced the next mainline Pokémon game(s): Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are releasing “late 2022” on the Nintendo Switch. They represent the ninth generation in the series.
Scarlet and Violet are true open world games. Trainers can explore a new, unnamed region without any borders or loading screens. This is a set up from Pokémon Legends: Arceus, where the world is divided into smaller areas. Scarlet and Violet will also feature multiple towns to visit around the region, instead of just one hub town.
Players can choose between a male and female trainer, with the outfit changing depending on which version of the game you play.
Scarlet and Violet also adds new Pokémon. The reveal trailer introduced the first form of the three new starters: Sprigatito, the grass cat, Fuecoco, the fire croc, and Quaxly, the water duckling.

That’s all the information we have on Pokémon Scarlet and Violet for now, but expect a lot more throughout the year. Scarlet and Violet have a tentative release schedule of late 2022.
