The first gaming casualty of 2021 has already been announced. Hogwarts Legacy, the highly anticipated prequel RPG, has been delayed into next year.

WB Games released the following statement via social media:

We would like to thank fans from around the world on the tremendous reaction to the announcement of Hogwarts Legacy from our Portkey Games label. Creating the best possible experience for all of the Wizarding World and gaming fans is paramount to us so we are giving the game the time it needs. Hogwarts Legacy will be released in 2022.

Hogwarts Legacy was announced during the PlayStation Showcase event back in September. It’s a single player RPG set 100 years before the events of the books and films. Players will be able to create their own witch or wizard student, attend classes, make friends, visit iconic locations, and master magical spells.

It’s being developer by Avalanche, best known for the Disney Infinity series, and published by Portkey Games, WB Games’ official label for games set in the Harry Potter universe. It was announced for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

It’s also our first official casualty of our Most Anticipated Games of the Year list for 2021. See you next year, Hogwarts Legacy!
