Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds (also known as PUBG) is making a special appearance at Gamescom in August. The game’s developer, Bluehole Inc., has partnered with ESL to create an eSports tournament for PUBG’s top tier of players. Those who rank among the top 80 competitors will be invited to participate in the Gamescom PUBG Invitational held at the convention in Cologne, Germany. This will be the first LAN event for the game since its initial release in March of this year.
Since Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds is an MMO battle royale game, Bluehole Inc. knows that the best way to ensure their game’s success is by keeping the community connected and engaged. The invitational will give players the chance to meet one another in person and interact with the developers behind one of their favorite games. The tournament will also encourage fan cooperation in addition to competition through the Duo and Squad Mode matches in the four-day-long event. Players will take part in all three modes (Duo, Squad, and Solo) over the course of the convention, and the competitor with the highest overall score will be declared the winner.
Bluehole Inc. is offering up a total prize pool of $350,000 USD for the invitational’s winners. Starting August 3rd, PUBG players can purchase in-game vanity items with the proceeds going to both the prize pool and a few different charities of Bluehole’s choosing.
The Gamescom PUBG Invitational will begin on August 23rd and conclude on the 26th. PUBG and ESL will be providing coverage of the events across social media platforms, and the tournament will also be broadcast live each day at 4:00 pm Central European Summer Time. Fans can watch the live feed on Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds’ official Twitch, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Mixer channels. More information about the Gamescom tournament will be released in the coming weeks, so check out playbattlegrounds.com for all the latest news.
