Story & Themes
In Paper Mario: Color Splash, Mario faces the destruction of his friend, Toad, who is delivered to him folded and drained of all his color. Horrified, Mario, Princess Peach, and another Toad set out to discover what has happened to their friend by heading to Prism Island, the place from where the letter was postmarked. At Port Prisma, the group finds that much of the landscape has also been drained of color and the central fountain is completely dry. Mario encounters a paint can named Huey who is the guardian of the Color Fountain, and Huey informs him that the Big Paint Stars which power the fountain and the entirety of the island have all been stolen. Mario agrees to help Huey recover the Stars to save the island and Toad from a colorless fate.

Players can save the game at particular checkpoints that are scattered throughout the levels.
Difficulty
Like most Mario games, Color Splash is pretty approachable for newcomers. Its most challenging aspect is the turn-based combat system which requires more and more strategy the farther players progress in the game.
Heads Up!
Violence Mario defeats his enemies in combat sequences by using various attack cards. Each card corresponds with a certain move, like stomp or fireball. Mario wins each battle once he has drained the enemies of their color.
