Vehicular ball game Rocket League has released new downloadable content, available today.
The Supersonic Fury DLC features two new vehicles: a muscle car called “Dominus” and a Japanese street-racing vehicle called “Takumi.”
It also offers a ton of new customizations, including decals, paint jobs, and wheels, as well as Rocket Boosts. If you’re into achievement hunting, there are also new trophies available on PlayStation and Steam. The Supersonic Fury DLC costs $3.99 on the PlayStation Store and on Steam.
In addition to the paid DLC, there is also a free update that lets players spectate on matches, as well as a 3-versus-3 ranked mode. The free update includes more country flags, a new arena called “Utopia Coliseum,” and a ton of new items for customization (the hilariously named “We’re Sorry The Servers Were Borked At Launch” items).
One of the wheel types in the DLC is called Cristiano, in honor of soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s appropriate considering this game is soccer-influenced, and also ridiculous. It combines driving and soccer. The players drive cars that are dwarfed by an enormous ball, which they attempt to knock into one team’s goal or the other.
Rocket League was the top-selling Steam game for the month of July, and has over 6 million players. Good thing, since it’s multiplayer. You can form teams with up to 8 players in online play, and four-player local split-screen. It’s possible to play single-player as well, in Season Mode, and go up against AI-controlled opponents.
It’s the successor to the 2008 release Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, which is a name that still fits Rocket League pretty well. We wrote about it in our list of fun competitive games that you don’t have to be a pro-gamer to enjoy. Though it’s fun for everyone, we’re looking forward to seeing Rocket League played by the pros in the Electronic Sports League. It’s just as fun to watch as it is to play.
