Story & Themes
Bayonetta stars the eponymous shape-shifting witch who has suffered a bout of amnesia after being rescued from the bottom of a lake. Bayonetta possesses one of the two "Eyes of the World," a set of treasures held dear by the Umbra Witches and Lumen Sages. Believing that she has the Left Eye, Bayonetta sets out across Vigrid, the Crescent and Sunrise Valleys, and the Isla Del Sol in search of the Right Eye. Along the way, she encounters and defeats four Cardinal Virtues and numerous other Angels. Ultimately, Bayonetta recovers her memories and meets certain people along her journey who help her to understand her unique identity.

Each level of the game has multiple autosave points, but the game can also be saved manually.
Difficulty
Bayonetta's fast pace may prove challenging to some players, but the game does have five different difficulty modes to ease frustration.
Heads Up!
Violence Bayonetta battles enemies with magic, guns, and melee attacks. Finishing attacks are the most brutal part of the game, with some of them involving torture devices, decapitation, and/or dismemberment.
Sex & Nudity Bayonetta and a few other female characters are overtly sexualized. Skin-tight clothing and revealing outfits are a standard feature, and occasionally a naked butt or breast can be seen when characters shed their clothing in battle.
Strong Language Strong language appears throughout the game's dialogue and includes "f*ck" and "sh*t."
Discrimination Bayonetta's portrayal is a point of some contention. While there is no question that she is sexualized, a division exists between those who are uncomfortable or upset by her depiction and those who consider it to be empowering.
