Story & Themes
AVP: Evolution is split into two campaigns: one following the Predators, and the other centered around Aliens. In both campaigns, the Super Predators are the primary antagonist. As a Predator, players have the main goal of stopping the Super Predators at the Temple Arena. This mission takes the playable Predator from a ship en route to the Temple to a Marine research facility after the ship is attacked and the Predator is forced to escape in a pod.
In the Alien campaign, the Super Predators have created an Alien army by enslaving the Queen and breeding new Aliens that are under their control. After the opening mission, players take on the role of a Facehugger captured by the Weyland-Yutani Co. After the Facehugger impregnates a scientist, a Chestburster emerges and players control this new character as it escapes from the lab, heading toward the Queen in order to save the Hive from Super Predator dominance.
Difficulty
The game features multiple difficulty settings. Normal mode is a fairly balanced experience, with some challenge but relatively little frustration.
Heads Up!
Violence Combat between the Aliens and Predators is fast-paced and typically in close quarters. Both sides can use standard melee attacks as well as weapons that can be found throughout the game. Depictions of blood appear in combat, though that of Aliens and Predators is green and doesn't look particularly realistic. A cutscene shows a human being impregnated by a Facehugger, and a Chestburster erupting out of him.
Scary Imagery The Aliens and Predators are creepy and potentially scary due to their appearance and deadliness, but the game is not primarily a work of survival horror.
Consumerism The game is part of a massive franchise with tie-ins to other franchises, though there's no actual consumerism in-game.
