Story & Themes
Wizard101 is set in the Spiral, a universe comprised of twelve different worlds. When the game begins, players start their education in witchcraft/wizardry at Ravenswood Academy in the field of their choosing. The Spiral has seven different schools of magic, including Storm, Fire, Ice, Myth, Death, Balance, and Life. The game's overarching goal is for players to level up their characters by learning magic and battling the forces of evil that threaten the peace of the Spiral.
Difficulty
Children at the age of ten or above should have little trouble picking up Wizard101. The game was designed for a younger crowd, and does a good job of accommodating appropriately.
Heads Up!
Violence Combat is magic-based with a cartoon appearance. Players use cards in a turn-based combat system to deal out spells, and defeat means being sent back to Ravenswood. Blood or gore of any kind is completely absent.
Consumerism Though Wizard101 is free-to-play, only a subscription fee or microtransactions will allow players access to all areas at the start of the game or certain features such as True Friends, a less-restrictive chat option for people who know each other in real life.
Online Community
Because Wizard101 appeals to a young audience, chat options are restrictive in accordance with the age of players. Only those eighteen or older can participate in open chat, and things such as profanity and personal information are completely banned from being shared in chat.
