Story & Themes
Shape Up is all about fitness, encouraging players to move around and get some exercise. For this reason, there isn't much of a story to the game, though players can technically "progress" by tracking the calories they burn.

The gameplay functions similarly to that of Kinect Sports Rivals and Kinect Adventures since it also uses the Kinect motion-sensing camera. Players can scan their likeness into the game, playing as themselves as they engage in various exercise minigames such as doing squats until they reach the moon. Each minigame is meant to capture the player's interest through quirkiness and arcade-style graphics. Players can choose to just stick with going through the individual minigames or take part in a four-week-long training session.
Difficulty
The game isn't too difficult to play, and it encourages players to increase their fitness level instead of requiring them to already be in shape.
Heads Up!
Violence There's some very mild violence in a few of the minigames, such as one which includes zapping UFOs. All of it is in the unrealistic arcade graphic style.
Strong Language The word "hell" pops up during dialogue.
Substance Use There's a joke that references alcohol made by a trainer in the game, but it doesn't promote drinking.
Online Community
The game supports online multiplayer, though players can stick with the local multiplayer mode if they'd prefer.
